2021 Aquathlon ORIGIN Athlete – Benoît Besnier

1. How did you train and get prepare for Aquathlon ORIGIN in this current situation (having social distancing measures in place)?

To be honest, I was quite happy the race got postponed at the end of February because I was moving the same weekend! Otherwise due to the current situation, with my coach Colin O’Shea, we were just managing my fitness level the last couple of weeks. I am training pretty much on my own every day so no issue with social distancing.

2. Due to the rolling start, the Aquathlon format is very much like a time trial format.

Does this change your race strategy? How or why not?

What is your target?

This year the format is different compared to the previous years but it’s been 13 months that I haven’t raced in any official competition. So Time Trial or Mass Start, it doesn’t matter, as long as we can race again. With a Time Trial race, there is only one strategy – All out!

3. What are you looking forward to for this upcoming Aquathlon ORIGIN event?

I am looking forward to seeing people having fun again in a sports competition. There are still a lot of social distance measures in place but I’m really happy to have a race on the agenda again thanks to Metasport.
