2021 Aquathlon ORIGIN Athlete – Regine Xuan Goh

1. How did you train and get prepare for Aquathlon ORIGIN at this current situation (having social distancing measures in place)?

I currently train with Aquatic Performance Swim Club, where the coaches plan thoroughly to ensure safe distancing measures are in place throughout phase 2 and 3 of post circuit breaker. Swimmers were staggered into different time slots so that the training facilities wouldn’t be too crowded. I also joined Club Breakaway to hone my triathlon skills and my coach will give me run sets to complete, both on my own and with the development squad.

2. Due to the rolling start, the Aquathlon format is very much like a time trial format.

Does this change your race strategy? How or why not?

Despite the change in format, my race strategy will not change. I am planning to make do and adapt to the race situation. I don’t think it will affect my race plans because I am just looking to measure my swim and run fitness, hopefully to see improvements from the months of training. Especially since I did stop training for a while in 2020 on a mission to recover. The training hiatus did take a toll on me and I put on a lot of weight. However, I am back now and excited to see how my performance will be like!

 What is your target?

My target is simply to improve from my previous timings in Dec 2020. Timing wise, below 11 min for swim and 24 min for run.

3. What are you looking forward to for this upcoming Aquathlon ORIGIN event?

I am just looking forward to swim open water again!! It has been long since i have raced in open water so I am definitely looking forward to that! Might be a controversial opinion but I do prefer swimming open water to the pool! and one last important thing!! I just really want to have fun and enjoy the sport! That’s the whole reason why I joined multi-sport, is to have fun! yeap, that’s all!
